Just about 60 years ago, Lloyd Schoenhals with his wife Billie founded Falls Pharmacy in 1955,
Lloyd Schoenhals started Falls Pharmacy at the corner of Bridge and Victoria Ave. There have been many changes along the way… prescriptions were once filled manually, and cash registers were not electronic.
Lloyd was a pilot in the Royal Canadian Air Force stationed in England in World War II. While at University, Lloyd met and married his wife Billie who he adored. Lloyd has always been an avid sailor and bowler and played hockey until he turned 65 years old.
He was always a man of great integrity and honesty. One year, the store alarm went off on Good Friday. When Lloyd arrived at the pharmacy, the police were waiting with two young boys. The boys were waiting at the front cash for someone to come up from the basement to ring in their purchase, not knowing that the store was closed. It seems that Lloyd and Billie had neglected to lock one of the doors the night before as they were in a hurry to get to an establishment on Lundy’s Lane. Lloyd rewarded their honest behaviour by allowing them to choose a large Easter bunny for themselves.
Lloyd loved wine and beer making so much that he added that department to the pharmacy long before it was fashionable. Every holiday he would make a festive drink for all the staff, coloured for the occasion.
He worked long hours and along with his wife Billie he raised four children. His daughter Jennifer is now the owner and carries on the Schoenhals family tradition of commitment to customer service.
